Good Morning Delaina and Class!

I made it through my first night in Albuquerque, NM!  This morning was a bit crazy, Ms. Dee has her hands full getting 4 children out the door to school.  But we made it and on time - which is always good.

I must say, I was pretty amazed to see Albuquerque in the day time.  I had a lot of questions for Ms. Dee, just what she needed right, another person to ask her questions.  ;-).

The first thing I noticed was that it was cold out today!  It was 28 degrees when we drove the kids to school.  I was not expecting that.   Ms. Dee said that the morning temperature can be as much as 30 degrees lower than the afternoon temperature, and then the evening will get 30 degrees colder too.  Today, the temperature this morning was 28 degrees, but this afternoon it is suppose to be 58 degrees, that is 30 degrees warmer!  I wonder how they know how to dress here?  They must use lots of layers!  Ms. Dee also said that it is like that all through the year.  In the summer it can be as high as 97 degrees during the day, but the morning and evening will be about 68 degrees, she said that they will go to the park in the morning or evening but stay out of the heat in the middle of the day.

Albuquerque is known as the 'High Desert', that means it is a desert high above sea level, as a matter of fact, Albuquerque is 4,900 feet above sea level at the Rio Grand River and goes to over 6,900 feet above sea level in the Foothills.  To the East of Albuquerque are the Sandia Mountains which are 10,678 feet above sea level. So, being that Albuquerque is a desert, it is not as green as it is in NJ.  As a matter of fact, it's pretty brown BUT, the browns are different shades of brown.  Some have red, some have orange, some are pink - I never thought I would look at a brown as being pink!

Here is a 'panoramic' view of the whole city of Albuquerque.  You can see the Sandia Mountains to the left of the picture.  Can you see how they are brown, but also pink?  Sandia means 'watermelon' in Spanish, and Ms. Dee tells me that when the sunsets on them - they are beautiful.

You can see 'downtown' - the small city buildings to the right of center.  It certainly isn't as big as New York City, but it has several businesses there.  There are rules in certain parts of town about buildings not being able to be taller than 3 stories - that is because everyone wants to see the views of the mountains!

Ms. Dee is going to take me to Old Town today!  There is some history information there that she will share with me.  That will be fun!!!
