Spanish Settling of Albuquerque

Hi Everyone!  Boy oh boy do I just keep going and going.  I am learning so much here and Ms. Dee says there is still so much more to learn.  This is another busy weekend for me.  We are going to the Bugg Lights tonight - not certain what they are, I hope they aren't really bugs that light up though.  Then tomorrow is another day of hockey!  A game at 11:45 for Fletcher; practice at 3:15 for IslaRose and then we are going to go see the Mustangs, they are a junior AA league - not certain what that means, but I do know the players are about 15-18 years old.  It should be fun though.

We went to the Museum of Art and History.  They have some wonderfully interesting art designs out here.  I hope we can get back to the Museum and take pictures inside, but for now, here are some of the art displays outside of the building.

As you can see - this one is pretty life sized.  Oh no, don't step on me....heeeheee

This is, believe it or not, the inside of an airplane propeller.  I'm not certain why it is considered art - but I guess it is just like 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' - art is too, and if you think it is neat and pretty and cool - then it is neat and pretty and cool.  Only you can say what you like - right?

Help!  I'm being chased by a coyote!  Haha!  He is a statue, don't worry.

Here is a bigger picture of him.  He is pretty scary looking.

The following pictures are of statues of Don Juan de Onate and the first Spanish Settlers he lead to Albuquerque in 1598.  It took 600 settlers 7 months to travel from Santa Barbara (south of present day Ciudad Chihuahua) to Albuquerque.  These statues show how they traveled on foot, with bulls pulling wagons carrying supplies.  That must have been a very very tiring trip.

Note:  The building in the background of the above picture is of the Museum of Natural History - they have dinosaurs!  Beyond that is another building, it is Explora, which is similar to the Liberty Science Station in NJ - only smaller - but still a lot of fun.

Note:  The building in the background of the above picture is of the Charter School that MacRae, Fletcher, IslaRose and Devon go to.  It is so cool to be right next to the Museum of Natural History, 1 Building over from Explora and across the street from The Museum of Art and History and Old Town.  Such a fun area!!

Here are some more statues, this one is of a Native American.  Ms. Dee says she'll take me to the Indian Cultural Center next week.  Apparently there are several Indian Reservations here for Pueblo, Navajo, Apache, Comanche and Ute Indians in the area.  I think the sun shining down in this picture is really nice.

Here is another statue of an Indian.  You can probably see that this Indian looks like he is dressed differently than the other.  I think this one is Comanche Indian and the one above is Navajo.

Well, that is all for now.  We have to get ready to go to the Bugg Lights!  Talk to you soon!!!
